Shoulder (Including Frozen Shoulder)

Shoulder pain can be frustrating because we use our hands every day without thinking about it, but then suddenly our shoulder starts to hurt and it starts preventing us from being able to do our everyday tasks. Shoulder pain is usually caused by a problem with the muscles, joints or tendons within the shoulder complex itself, or referred from the neck, upper back or ribs.

How We Can Help With Shoulder Pain?

At Body Beliefs, we take a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on the diagnoses, treatment and prevention of shoulder pain. We will gather information about your symptoms, relevant health and medical history, how the pain is impacting your daily activities and consider any ergonomic or environmental influences. We will then conduct a thorough osteopathic assessment and examination. This enables us to clearly explain what your elbow pain problem is, and why it happened. We will then provide specialist, hands-on treatment, and offer exercises and advice to accelerate your recovery and prevent the problem from returning.

The Possible Causes Of Shoulder Pain?

Although there are times shoulder pain may come on quickly, we tend to find that shoulder pain is usually a gradual build-up of tightness which is caused by our posture and lifestyle factors.

  • Overuse - Lifestyle factors such as repetitive use of your arm in certain positions such as painting or hairdressing
  • Frozen’ Shoulder - Pain commonly starts with stiffness and limitation that gradually progresses. It is typically more noticeable at night and when lying on the affected side. After a few months, the pain eases, but the restriction in mobility gets worse.
  • Rotator Cuff Injury - Injury to one of the four rotator cuff muscles
  • Subacromial Impingement - Inflammation or irritation to the rotator cuff tendons as they pass through the subacromial space
  • Tendinopathy/ Tendonitis - Inflammation to the tendons of the arm or shoulder, generally due to overuse or over-stretching
  • Osteoarthritis - Natural age-related changes ('Wear and tear')  to the shoulder joints
  • Lifting Heavy Objects

How Do We Treat Shoulder Pain?

When it comes to treating shoulder pain, we at Body Beliefs use a variety of techniques to help alleviate pain and improve function. These may include physical manipulation, mobilisation, stretching, soft tissue massage, and exercises to improve strength and flexibility. As well as treating the shoulder directly, we may also work on your arm, elbow and upper back and neck, if assessment reveals contributing factors in those areas.  We will work closely with you to identify any underlying causes of the pain and address them through hands-on treatment, lifestyle changes and advice.

At Body Beliefs, we pride ourselves on "exceeding expectations", as evidenced by the glowing 5-star reviews from our satisfied patients on platforms such as Google Reviews and Facebook. To schedule an appointment, please book online or call 01277 676 676.
